Artist Spotlight 2 | 2019 High Notes Music Festival

Featuring Diyet & The Love Soldiers, Ken Lavigne & The Frontiers

Posted 6 years ago

ARTIST 1 | DIYET & THE LOVE SOLDIERS

Life for this songstress started off a little differently than most Canadian. Born in a tent and raised in a cabin far North on the shores of a glacial lake in the Yukon Territory, Diyet’s exciting life journey had only just begun. Blooming from a family faithful to their traditions and tempered with a good sense of adventurous hippie attitudes, Diyet has created a musical presence that is as diverse as her Southern Tutchone, Tlingit, Japanese and Scottish heritage. Accompanied by Love Soldiers; husband and collaborator, Robert van Lieshout and JUNO Award winning producer, Bob Hamilton; this soulful multi-instrumental trio will take you on a musical adventure creating a unique soundscape that reflects the experience of life in the remote North with catchy melodies and lyrics rooted deeply in life stories.

Diyet is known to say “Yesterday, fishing for our dinner on the ice, the next day, on the stage singing for you”. Without a doubt, the important outdoor life skills that she has acquired throughout the years have most certainly shaped her as a person, but also guided her to create her own fearless and genuine sound.

See Diyet take centre stage on Saturday March 23rd in the Headliner Show alongside Tiger Moon and JUNO nominees The Jerry Cans.  Book headliner tickets, here

ARTIST 2 | KEN LAVIGNE

Before his talents took him to the big stage, Lavigne worked as a singing waiter serving up operatic arias and fine food while perfecting his talents as a master entertainer. Not your typical route into the world of classical music. Recognized early for the outstanding timbre of his lyrical tenor voice as well as the ease and agility with which he sings, Lavigne has charmed his way into the hearts of music lovers around the world with his captivating performances and smooth vocals. In 2009, the Victoria-raised tenor fulfilled his dream of singing at New York’s renowned Carnegie Hall. He received three standing ovations and has since go on to perform for HRH Prince Charles on a royal visit to Government House. Ken is renowned for delivering an experience unlike any other and is a regular performer with multi-Grammy winner David Foster and the founding member of two highly successful bands, The Canadian Tenors and Romanza.

Be prepared to be awed as Lavigne perfectly lends his exciting blend of classical tenor sound and modern style to a sumptuous Italian inspired four-course menu in the intimate setting of Restaurant ElevenFIFTY to open the festival on Friday March 22nd.

ARTIST 3 | THE FRONTIERS

Self-proclaimed as Alberta’s best Roots-Rock/Soul band, The Frontiers certainly live up to the hype. These five gentlemen add good doses of soul and indie rock influences to their unique sound as they riff on fiddle, bass, guitar and drums creating highly melodic and catchy tunes that ensure the energy stays upbeat and the vocals remain rock heavy while their lyrics weave tales through the rhythm.

You’ll be dancing the night away at T-Bar & Grill when they kick off the festival on Friday March 22nd.
