Panorama, BC – November 22, 2018.
Come March 2022, Panorama Mountain Resort will welcome hundreds of top international athletes when it hosts the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships.
Panorama’s successful bid was announced by the International Ski Federation (FIS) in Switzerland last Friday, November 16. It’s the first time a resort in Western Canada has been selected as host.
More than 200 athletes from all Alpine disciplines, plus their coaches, support staff and families will embark on the resort for the week-long competition.
Steve Paccagnan, President and CEO of Panorama Mountain Resort said the World Championships will be a boost for the Columbia Valley for years to come. “It will bring top athletes from around the globe, showcase the spirit of our mountain community and put the spotlight on what is already a top-class racing and training centre. This is huge for Panorama and a great win for Canada too.”
The FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships are an annual competition for athletes between 16 and 20 years of age. It is the most important event in the Under 21 category, held on the slopes of the most prestigious resorts.
The right to host the event is a culmination of many months of hard work, and recognition of Panorama as one of the very best training and racing venues. Panorama is the home mountain of the Canadian Alpine and Para-Alpine Ski Teams and the bid received full support from Alpine Canada Alpin.
Panorama has a long and honored history with alpine ski racing. The resort has hosted many world and North American cup races over the past 56 years.
